Abstract

Abstract

The new excavations reinforced the hypothesis made by Sautel in the fifties about the existence of two ancient Christian churches. Remains were found of two or three phases of a church with three naves, and of part of the apse of a second church (and not a baptistery as some scholars had hypothesized). The two churches were not contemporaneous : the western one was abandoned rather early (5th or 6th Century) and replaced by the eastern one.
