Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

According to Paul de Man, rhetoric should not be associated with figurative language as opposed to conceptual language. In his view, this distinction is based on the idea that everything that language declares has a phenomenal basis. De Man, on the other hand, argues that this opposition and phenomenalisation are the result of the intrinsic rhetorical potential of language. Our aim in this article is to examine this that Paul de Man develops from Rousseau, particularly based on his discussion with Grosrichard and Derrida.
