L’article présente la reconstitution d’une chronique qui a été fabriquée à Trèves dans la première moitié du e siècle et placée sous le nom de Méthode de Patara, le prétendu auteur des fameuses . Il s’agit d’une compilation faite, pour l’essentiel, à partir de la d’Eusèbe-Rufin et des . L’objet de l’historiographe consiste à montrer que l’Église de Trèves, fondée par Euchaire, élève direct de saint Pierre, avait bénéficié d’une succession épiscopale ininterrompue durant les premiers siècles chrétiens. La du Pseudo-Méthode est connue à travers des citations faites dans trois compilations historiographiques du e siècle.

This article presents the reconstruction of a chronicle that had been fabricated at Trier during the first half of the 12th century. Its so-called author is Methodius of Patara who was supposed to have written the famous . This compilation is essentially based on the of Eusebius-Rufin and the . The fake aims at convincing the reader that the see of Trier, founded by Eucharius, a direct disciple of St Peter, had never known a gap in the episcopal succession during the first Christian centuries. The of Pseudo-Methodius is known owing the quotations mentioned in three historiographical compilations of the 12th century.
