f Les curés médiateurs sociaux : genèse et diffusion d’un modèle dans la France du xvii^e siècle

L’implication des curés dans des actions tendant à mettre fin à des querelles et à des procès, objet d’une enquête en cours, est repérable dans certains écrits personnels de curés du xvii^e siècle. Ces textes gardent trace d’interventions pacificatrices d’une grande souplesse, qui s’insèrent logiquement dans l’activité pastorale quotidienne, sans opposer médiation sociale et intercession. Coutumière, confirmée par d’autres sources, cette pacification par les curés a été relancée, dans la seconde moitié du xvii^e siècle, par la parution d’ouvrages de nature diverse, au premier rang desquels L’arbitre charitable, émanation du conseil charitable de la paroisse Saint-Sulpice à Paris, dont le message est efficacement relayé par plusieurs évêques.

The involvement of parish priests in actions designed to put an end to quarrels and lawsuits, which is currently being researched, can be found in certain personal writings of the parish priests of the 17th century. These documents preserve traces of efforts at pacification of considerable dexterity, efforts which are located, quite logically, in their daily pastoral activity, but without pitting social mediation and intercession. A customary activity which is confirmed by other sources, such pacification efforts by the parish priests was boosted, during the second half of the 17th century, by different types of publication, especially that of the Arbitre charitable,a product of the council of charity of the parish of Saint-Sulpice, whose message was effectively propagated by several bishops.

Die Einbindung von Pfarrern in Aktionen, die Streitigkeiten und Prozesse beenden sollen, ist Gegenstand eines Forschungsprojekts. Zeugnisse für sie finden sich in persönlichem Schrifttum von Pfarrern des 17. Jahrhunderts. Diese Texte bieten Hinweise auf Frieden stiftende Interventionen von einer großen Geschmeidigkeit ; sie reihen sich logischerweise ein in das tägliche Wirken als Seelsorger, ohne zur sozialen Vermittlung und Fürsprache im Gegensatz zu stehen. Allgemein üblich und auch in anderen Quellen belegt, erhielt diese Friedensstiftung durch die Pfarrer in der zweiten Hälfte des 17. Jahrhunderts neuen Auftrieb durch das Erscheinen von Büchern verschiedener Natur, vor allem des Werks L’arbitre charitable ; bei ihm handelt es sich um die karitativen Ratschläge der Pfarre Saint-Sulpice in Paris, deren Botschaft von mehreren Bischöfen wirkungsvoll aufgegriffen wurde.
