The paper presents a sherd with the remnant of an inscription, unearthed at Megiddo in the 2014 excavation season in a level affiliated with either the transition from Stratum VB to Stratum VA-IVB, or with Stratum VA-IVB. This is the earliest alphabetic text from the site. The continuation of Proto-Canaanite into the ninth century is then addressed, and other questions concerning the development of the West Semitic alphabet in the tenth-ninth centuries.
Cet article présente un tesson portant les restes d’une inscription, dégagé à Megiddo lors de la campagne de fouilles de 2014, dans un niveau assignable soit à la transition entre les strates VB et VA-IVB, soit à la strate VA-IVB. C’est le plus ancien texte alphabétique découvert sur le site. Sont abordées ensuite la question de la persistance du proto-cananéen au IXe s. et d’autres questions concernant le développement de l’alphabet ouest-sémitique aux Xe et IXe siècles.
