During the renewal of the church of Saint Martin in Kotišina above the town of Makarska in 2019, a copper T-shaped plate was found with an engraved, gild and enamelled image of an eagle, the symbol of Saint John the Evangelist. Composed proportionally and following the golden ratio rule, it was attached to the end of the crossbar of an unpreserved crucifix. It is demonstrated here, on the basis of its typology and use of the champlevé technique, that the plate was a part of the crucifix manufactured in one of the Limoges workshops. It is dated to 1175-1180. This is the southernmost known find of this type on the eastern Adriatic. The Romanesque church of Saint Martin is dated approximately to the 12th-13th century, and it is viewed as a pilgrimage site, while the acquisition of the crucifix is attributed to the mediation of the coastal Benedictine centers.
