The article concerns a series of depictions in which the patron saint (pater et protector civitatis) holding a city model follow a cohesive and striking iconographic formula. Some of these images are closely linked to a sense of local identity. The article offers an in-depth analysis of examples from Split and Dubrovnik, all of which are to be seen as original interpretations of this iconographical phenomenon, also in a wider European context.
