This paper studies the use of the periphrasis of habeo + infinitive in the Itinerarium Egeriae. After a detailed analysis of the examples, and after describing the panorama of all the forms expressing posteriority in Egeria’s work, it is concluded that this periphrasis is in competition with the forms that expressed in Classical Latin the values of future and posteriority, mainly the future of indicative and the periphrastic in -urus. The paper shows how the periphrasis is used with the same values as its Romance morphological successors, i.e. the future and the conditional.
