Abstract

Abstract

In 1925, nearby the location of the ancient church of San Martino, a few test excavations were carried out during the foundation of the new facade of the city hall in Padova. These excavations brought to light a number of Early Medieval and Pre-Romanesque sculptural fragments that provided a clear terminus ante quem for the foundation of the church itself. A careful stylistic and iconographic analysis allowed the identification of two main productions and a hypothetical reconstruction of the Carolingian liturgical furniture. The fragments are now stored in the Musei Civici of Padova.
