Abstract

Abstract

The sculptures of the cathedral of Bitonto are the core of a future corpus of Apulian sculpture between the end of the twelfth century and the beginning of the thirteenth century. The sculptures of the central portal can be dated to the end of the twelfth century. The ambo of magister Nicolaus is dated to 1229. The author analyzes the style and the iconography of the sculptures, contextualizing them within a larger Adriatic area.
