Abstract

The aim of the article is to present the history of the successive phases of the archeological exploration of Magdala, a city mentioned in the Gospels. After having taken into account the notable and pioneering work conducted in the 70s by the Franciscan fathers of the Custody of the Holy Land, the article adds more information from the excavations of the Israel Antiquities Authority and presents the results of the latest surveys made contemporaneously by the construction of the Madgala Center and by the so-called . Considering the archaeological evidence, the image of Magdala as a real town in the time of Jesus is being shaped.
