Abstract

Is Ps 27 a resurrectional Psalm? We believe so. At the very beginning, it says: “The Lord is my light and my salvation”, which was traditionally interpreted as: “Light in this world and salvation in the world to come”. Then it formulates a solemn vow (v. 4) regarding the will to dwell forever in the house of the Lord. Moreover, it ends with another vow (v. 13). At least two sayings, in these two vows, are strictly parallels: “to behold the beauty of the Lord” (v. 4) and “to see the goodness of the Lord” (v. 13). Hence the two vows illuminate each other. This fact enables us to find a new grammatical solution for the very difficult v. 13, in which we have a protasis without an apodosis. Theologically, “the house of the Lord” becomes very close to “the land of living”, i.e. the resurrection.
