Abstract

Starting from the analysis of a Roman fresco in the cubicle of Leone in the catacombs of Commodilla, this contribution deals with those mature reproductions of the , which foresee the rooster and, consequently, its evolution as a symbol of the Petrine event, on a column, which in the light of a large group of literary testimonies, could represent the Flagellation in the jerusalemite tradition, that is the architectural emblem of the house of Caiaphas, where Peter’s denial took place, as described unanimously in the four gospels.
