Abstract

Global betrachtet muß man festhalten, daß es sich bei dem oben dargelegten Weg der frühmittelalterlichen Aneignung antiker Bildung um individuelle Leistungen handelt, die aber auf zunehmendes Interesse stießen. Häufig wurde in der Geschichtsschreibung der Eindruck vermittelt, Euklid und die anderen seien “ wieder ” nach Europa zurückgekehrt. Dabei wird vergessen, daß Euklid (u.a.) bis zu den Kelten und Germanen noch nie gekommen war. Mit dem gesamten dargelegten Aneignungsprozeß hatten Kelten und Germanen für sich Neuland betreten. Durch die Übersetzungen griechischer und hellenistischer Werke ins Lateinische wurde dieser Weg nun beschleunigt fortgesetzt. Insofern brachte Toledos Eroberung keine Wende, jedenfalls nicht in dem Sinn einer Richtungsänderung.
