Poétique de la prière dans les œuvres d'Ovide
From his early works to the poems of exile Ovid constructed a personal poetic language mixing religious stylemes belonging to the liturgical language of the Augustan age with purely poetic stylemes some taken from literary tradition others quite original: he thus plays on the border-line separating the religious carmen from the poetic carmen giving birth to a new song endowing poetry with a sacred status making it the properly poietic music of creation whose breath gives the world its meaning its form and its beauty.
When Ovid speaks to us of love he also speaks to us of poetry but not just a narcissistic poetry taken as its object and own end. What is reflected in the mirror of Ovidian verse as it takes shape in the utterance of prayer is a perspective – a transcendental perspective through which the poet attempts to contemplate the sacred Music which organizes the universe.
In Paciani episcopi Barcinonensis opera silva studiorum
The study and the production of a critical edition of the works of Pacian bishop of Barcelona (fourth century) have been the life’s work of Angel Anglada Anfruns. He has published many articles in miscellanies and high ranked journals since the 1960s and also some in less-accessible periodicals. Updated versions of these contributions most of which are written in Spanish have now been gathered for the first time in a volume entitled Silva studiorum. They deal with the manuscript transmission and the history of the printed versions of Pacian’s opera the syntactic structure (particularly the clausulae) and particular problematic passages in the bishop’s writings. The volume concludes with an index of the passages which have been discussed in detail. The articles offer a general view of the reception of Pacian’s works down the ages and list the author’s arguments behind specific editorial decisions. It is the perfect companion volume to the edition of Pacian’s complete works published in Corpus Christianorum Series latina 69B (2012).

Carmen et prophéties à Rome
The privileged form of expression of Roman prayer before Christianism was the carmen a « religious formula » carefully scanned with an aura often archaic and mysterious if not magical. This book offers a systematic inquiry into the carmen. The author examines its technical aspects within the realm of archaic latin meter then based upon the latest research pursues in-depth studies of the oldest manifestations of this type of prayer : the carmina of the ancient sodalities of Rome the Salians and the Arval Brothers and the carmina of the corpus of Cato the Elder (the « Censor ») who provides us with precepts and prayers stemming from the earliest beliefs of the farmers of Latium. He adds a study of the carmen taken in another sense although under foreign influence that of « oracular formula » « prophetic discourse » a discourse which was assumed to come from the divinity itself. The most famous were the oracles of the Sibyl entrusted to the strange Sibylline Books which allowed divination notably in times of crisis. The Romans also had recourse to the oracles of Etruscan divination to the renowned « responses » of the haruspices. Charles Guittard thus analyses fundamental aspects and concepts of the Roman religion of the Pagan age matters upon which Pagans and Christians will greatly debate in later periods.
Charles Guittard is professor of Latin language and literature at the University of Paris at Nanterre (Paris X). A recognized specialist in Roman religion author of numerous books and articles he has in particular edited Livy and translated Lucretius.
Rhétorique, poétique, spiritualité: La technique épique de Corippe dans la "Johannide"
In the Iohannis the African poet Corippus circa A.D. 550 celebrates the recent triumph of John Troglita a Byzantine general over insurgent Moors : an event which he regards as a victory of the Roman world over barbarians and of Christians over pagans. This study demonstrates that the poem belongs simultaneously to the panegyrical and epic genres. Then follows a survey of the neo-classical principles governing such a composition and an analysis of the epic style of Corippus (narrative descriptions catalogues speeches narrator’s intrusion) of the world view and of the spirituality pervading the poem. Corippus was aware that he might produce merely an impoverished classical epic : this is why he made of the Iohannis an original Christian epic.
Les manuscrits des lexiques et glossaires de l'Antiquité tardive à la fin du moyen âge

De nombreux lexiques et glossaires qui datent de l'Antiquité tardive et du moyen âge sont actuellement conservés dans divers manuscrits. Mais malheureusement seul un petit nombre d'entre eux a été édité. Le but du Colloque était de faire le point de nos connaissances et de déterminer les priorités d'éditions à réaliser. Les auteurs de communications ont essayé de dresser une liste de ces textes inédits et d'examiner les problèmes que rencontrent les chercheurs lorsqu'ils en entreprennent l'édition critique. Ils ont également mis l'accent sur le point de vue méthodologique.
Le volume comprend d'abord un état de la question concernant les lexiques les plus connus. Les communications permettent de voir l'évolution du "genre littéraire" depuis l'Antiquité jusqu'à la Renaissance.
Comme il était impossible de faire le tour de la question tant la documentation est vaste deux domaines ont été privilégiés: les lexiques et glossaires spécialisés ainsi que les receuils bilingues. Cette première approche a permis de rassembler un matériel en grande partie inédit susceptible de rendre d'innombrables services aux médiévistes.
