A particular perception of the Latin language can be gleaned from the Romance languages (other than the great languages of communication). This can be done by finding in the great authors terms or expressions shown vividly in the most common daily life. The labels ‘Vulgar Latin’, and ‘Late Latin’ should not prevent us from recognizing in the great texts by, say, Horace or Virgil, like in a quarry, significant findings. These are pieces for use in areas such as the Hispanic Northwest, or , which up to now have had limited weight in the conformation of the great lines of Romanistic and Vulgar Latin studies. We review a dozen cases of poetic terms with resonances in Late Latin authors, as well as novel survivals in Galician and other languages.
