Since David Dumville’s publications (1974; 1988) studies concerning the authorship of Historia Brittonum have ceased. Dumville’s work was based above all on codicological considerations. Nonetheless, the Latin used in Historia Brittonum presents many lexical asperities which give away some signs of multilingualism. This paper is in keeping with Adams’ work about bilingualism in Latin, and particularly on the contacts between Latin and the Celtic and Germanic languages (2003, 447-449), and tries to establish the identity of the original author of Historia Brittonum by studying the marks of bilingualism and code-switching (2003, 356-393) in the text.
