The Gabinet Numismatic de Catalunya (GNC), was created in 1932 with the purpose of hosting, in a single space, the different monetary collections deposited in the museum centres of the city of Barcelona (Spain). As of 1991, it became part of the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya and since then it has been based in the Palau Nacional de Montjuïc in Barcelona. Over the years, the different monetary series have been organized and classified, with those pieces with a chronology between the sixth and tenth centuries being protected, but only partially definitively studied. The variety of pieces, the difficulty of cataloguing, and, on occasion, the lack of bibliography, have prevented its full documentation.
