Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

In the account of Hannibal’s wanderings in Campania in the twelfth book of the , Silius gives a special emphasis to Parthenope and Cumae; in particular, the episode of the failed attempt to conquer the second city can be read as a ‘double’ of the previous attempt to take Parthenope. Moreover, the myth of Daedalus, which illustrates the origin of the temple of Apollo in Cumae, reveals unprecedented ovidian echoes.
