Il contributo offre un’analisi dettagliata della riscrittura di un verso del commediografo siceliota Epicarmo fatta dall’Autore del , il prezioso manualetto di campagna elettorale attribuito a Quinto Tullio Cicerone ([Q. Cic.] . 39). Quella in questione è l’unica esplicita citazione da opere altrui del , ma, lontano dall’essere una traduzione letterale in latino dell’originale greco (noto anche da Cic. . 1, 19, 8 = Kassel - Austin 2001, 129-130 nr. 218), il modo in cui è riportata è espressione evidente di un adattamento del verso/motto di Epicarmo all’interno del contesto specifico (e tutto romano) della campagna elettorale. La riscrittura del motto di Epicarmo del presenta, infatti, una serie di differenze connotanti e connotate, dal sapore ciceroniano, come il riferimento ai e una sostanziale modifica dell’ἀπιστεῖν di Epicarmo in un (a sua volta) proverbiale .

This paper offers a detailed analysis of the reworking of a line by the Sicilian playwright Epicharmus in the , the precious brief handbook on canvassing for office attributed to Quintus Tullius Cicero ([Q. Cic.] . 39). The one examined here is the only explicit quotation from works by other authors made in the . Far from being a translation from the Greek original (known, among others, via Cic. . 1, 19, 8 = Kassel - Austin 2001, 129-130 no. 218), it properly consists of an adaptation of Epicharmus’ line/motto within a specific (and Roman) context, namely that of the electoral campaign. Accordingly, this reworking of Epicharmus’ motto is characterised by connoted and connoting differences with a Ciceronian flavour, such as the mention of and the transition from Epicharmus’ ἀπιστεῖν to the proverbial phrase .
