Giuliano e il suo pittore (ep. 177 Bidez)

In ep. 117 Bidez Giuliano Imperatore non intende esattamente dire che non usava un certo oggetto misterioso perché accettava la volontà degli dèi. Vuole dire che non usava l’oggetto misterioso perché si limitava ad accettare la volontà degli dèi opponendo una resistenza interiore. È questa mancata adesione interiore che desidera sottolineare. Credo che l’oggetto misterioso sia il diadema imperiale.

In ep. 117 Bidez, Julian does not mean that he did not make use of a certain mysterious object because he accepted the will of the gods. He means that he did not make use of the mysterious object because he merely obeyed the will of the gods without endorsing it inwardly. He wants to stress the absence of inward acceptance on his part. I argue that the mysterious object is the imperial diadem.
