Abstract

Abstract

This paper deals with the Apostle Paul and his epistolary corpus in Photius’ . From Photius’ “summaries”, and consequently from the chapters of the that mention Paul and his letters, it becomes evident that, in the view of the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, the 1st-century disciple of Christ — described as the “herald and fervent lover of love” — was a figure of profound significance and wisdom: a mystic. Paul of Tarsus is portrayed as the holy or divine Apostle, or simply the Apostle par excellence, who “initiated” all into the faith and divine mysteries, having a central influence in defining the principles of Christian doctrine.
