Abstract

This volume is devoted to the history of engineers from the 16 to the 20 century. It begins with two general papers, the first one by M. Duffy on the nature of engineering, the other by E. Knob loch on engineers of the Renaissance and their illustrated manuscripts. The other papers deal with the training of engineers, their methods, and role in the international technological transfers as well as the biography of some famous engineers.
