The Frankish Royal Annals are the main and by far the most important source for the rebellion of Liudewit, Duke of Lower Pannonia (818/819-822/823). The terminology used to describe Liudewit’s rebellion in the Frankish court and thus the Frankish perspective is analysed in this treatise. The central term by means of which they referred to his sin is perfidia. Consequently, Liudewit was an infidelis who broke the oath of allegiance, which could not go unpunished. On top of that, the treatise draws attention to a few sources of predominately Bavarian provenance (partly already known but poorly received) that significantly complement the description of events taking place in 819, as it is evident solely from them that at the time the Bavarian troops partook in the quelling of the rebellion.
