There are several major changes in the Latin verbal system from Early to Late Latin. These changes are all visible in Late Latin texts, but not always in the same way and to the same extent. The problem is how and to which extent we can draw conclusions about the development in contemporary spoken Late Latin from the available data in the preserved texts.
