Termes interrogatifs dans le . Concordances et discordances avec les de Grégoire de Tours

Preview this chapter:

The aim of this paper is to identify in the Liber Historiae Francorum (LHF), a chronicle written by an anonymous author around 727, the interrogative clauses in order to study the question words that introduce them. Likely to vary according to the syntactic status and the illocutionary force of the clause, the value and distribution of these terms can also reflect the state of evolution of the language. In order to perceive the rhythm of this evolution, we will compare, for the terms listed in the Liber, their use in the Historiae, a much more extensive work of largely similar style and content, written towards the end of the sixth century by Gregory of Tours. Will evolution turn out to be straight or will it involve discontinuities?
