This survey paper comments on three recent publications: an edition, German translation and monograph on Dexippus, a Greek historian of the 3^rd century AD whose works survived only in fragments, a new volume of the full commentary of Ammianus by four dutch scholars on book 26, and a book on Ammianus as a elusive and allusive historian.
