Abstract

Abstract

Tomb G 8538 is a small monument built in the entourage of the mastaba of Rekhetre in Giza. It belongs to various owners among which Irienakhet and Kaemneferet stand out. In two of the tomb scenes, Kaemneferet is depicted censing opposite the figure of Rekhetre. These scenes are the only example of a -servant depicting himself performing his duties in his own funerary monument, making them unique. Another interesting feature of this monument is the way in which Kaemnefert links himself with the estate of the queen by using the term Dt(j), which expresses a patron-client relationship between both individuals. The aim of this paper is to explore the unique features of these scenes and to understand the reasons why Kaemnefert decided to include them in the decoration of his tomb.
