Abstract
Abstract
This study analyzes the use of the formula οὐδέ τί σε χρή in epic poetry, especially with regard to its use for indirect speech acts and expressions of verbal politeness. This is a formula exclusively attested in Homer and the Homeric Hymns. Furthermore, the specific contexts in which this formula is used are analyzed, with particular attention to a possible dependency of use between both corpora. The study concludes that, while this formula is a common feature in both works, an evolution is evident in its use in the Hymns when compared to the Homeric poems, particularly in terms of the syntactic-pragmatic contexts in which it appears.
