Abstract

Abstract

The Portuguese doctor Amatus Lusitanus (1511-1568) published his seven between 1551 and 1566. The clinical cases are usuallyfollowed by some in which different subjects related to the case are theoreticallydiscussed. In the 28 of the first Amatus writes a long to talk about an issue frequently debated from Antiquity: the suitability of providing aqueous wine during fever episodes. The paper, in any case, aims to carry out a deep analysis of Amatus’ literary method and to pay special attention to his way of building the text by citing ancient sources (, Aristotle, Galenus, Aetius) and using contemporary authors (Manardus, Musa Brassavola, Mondella) in a tacit and more or less dissimulated way.
