The purpose of this paper is, in the first place, to analyze the strategies used in Horace's ode 3, 30 for the construction of the text-monument metaphor, and how this metaphor works in the construction of the lyric personas identity. Secondly, we try to show how this metaphor enables the entry of that identity into Roman’s collective memory, and thereby guarantees its preservation
