This study has two aims: the first is to show how and to what extent these mechanisms that were motivated by the lack of a Church-sanctioned coronation were reflected in the iconography of the kings; and the second, is to determine why Peter IV (also known as Peter the Ceremonious) was so active in disseminating these legitimizing mechanisms in art and literature
