Abstract

Abstract

This paper focuses on a Neo-Assyrian period cylinder seal inscribed in Aramaic, published by L. Speleers in 1936 then in 1943. The legend defied decipherment for half a century until E. Lipiński in 1994 read backwards "Belonging to , the scribe." We deal with the iconography of this seal depicting a cultic scene, and propose to take Lipiński's insight a step or two farther.
