An oryx hunting scene accompanied by an Ancient North Arabian (Safaitic) inscription

This paper aims at analyzing an oryx hunting scene found in a rock drawing in northeast Jordanian Bādiyah. This scene of an Arabian oryx hunt offers an opportunity for more understanding of the hunting skills and methods among ancient north Arabian nomads in a joint hunting event, involving a group of hunters, on foot and on camels, with the help of hunting dogs.

Cet article analyse une scène de chasse à l’oryx trouvée sur un dessin rupestre dans le nord-est de la Bādiyah jordanienne. Cette scène de chasse à l’oryx d’Arabie permet de mieux comprendre les compétences et les méthodes de chasse des anciens nomades du nord de l’Arabie lors d’une chasse commune, par un groupe de chasseurs à pied et à dos de chameau, avec l’aide de chiens de chasse.
