La spiritualità come sfida alle religioni. Credere e far credere nell'Europa plurale

A partire dalla messa in causa del concetto di religione e della teoria della secolarizzazione, l'articolo intende documentare lo spostamento contemporaneo dell'asse di legittimazione del rapporto con il sacro, in un passaggio dalla centralità riconosciuta alle istituzioni tradizionali del credere al progressivo affermarsi della libertà di scelta del soggetto anche in materia di fede. Da tale spostamento deriva un riposizionarsi tanto del soggetto quanto delle istituzioni religiose. Viene poi illustrato il dibattito scientifico che si è sviluppato in sociologia della religione sull'uso del termine «spiritualità» e sulle potenzialità euristiche del concetto.

Questioning the concept of religion and the theory of secularization, the article aims to document the contemporary shift of the legitimization of the sacred, in a transition from the centrality of traditional institutions of believing to the progressive affirmation of subject's freedom of choice also in matters of faith. From this movement comes a repositioning of both the subject and the religious institutions. The scientific debate that has developed in the sociology of religion on the use of the term 'spirituality' and on the heuristic potentialities of the concept is then illustrated.
