Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

The German exegete Johannes Oecolampadius published in Basel in the year 1525 his lessons about the prophet Isaiah. The biblical words have a determined historical significance, but they are connected with the general order of the divine justice from the origins to the end. In the middle appears always the evangelical Christ, who announces his grace to the repenting sinners. But his blame falls on every hypocrisy, violence, idolatry. The severe gospel of his eternal justice is addressed to the Christian churches of the sixteenth century, as the old Israel they are submerged in the world's goods and overloaded with deceptive appearances.
