Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

The article describes the intellectual and imaginative connections between Jorge Luis Borges’ childhood and Buddhism. Through the famous book about Buddha’s life by sir Edwin Arnold, (1879) and the fascinating story by Oscar Wilde, “The Happy Prince” (1888) which Borges translated in 1910 for the Uruguayan newspaper , this paper demonstrates that the young Borges was gaining knowledge of Buddhist mythologies since his first readings and writing exercises.
