Vincenzo Monti traducteur de Voltaire : La Pulcella d’Orléans

Cette étude est une analyse métrique et stylistique de La Pulcella d’Orléans de Vincenzo Monti – traduction-réécriture du poème homonyme de Voltaire La Pucelle d’Orléans –- considérée comme une version autonome, étant donné le choix particulier de réduire la composante philosophique et idéologique d’origine, ainsi que de mettre en relation le modèle avec une littérature italienne spécifique, principalement par l’adoption d’une grille strophique fortement marquée (l’ottava rima).

De plus, avec sa traduction, l’auteur a voulu mettre l’accent sur les aspects les plus amusants et provocateurs de l’histoire de Jeanne d’Arc, afin d’obtenir une grande expérimentation au niveau de la langue, de la métrique et de la syntaxe.

D’après l’analyse stylistique d’un petit passage du poème dans les deux versions, surgit une modalité très intéressante et unique de la réécriture de Monti, qui concerne l’utilisation soit de l’endecasillabo, soit de l’ottava, soit du vocabulaire du texte.

This study is a metrical and stylistic analysis of La Pulcella Orleans by Vincenzo Monti – translation and rewriting of the homonymous poem by Voltaire La Pucelle d’Orléans – considered as an autonomous version, especially due to the choice to reduce the philosophical and ideological component of the origin, and to relate the model with a specific Italian literature, mainly by adopting a strongly marked strophic grid (the ottava rima).

In addition to translating the work, the author wanted to focus on the most amusing and provocative aspects of the story of Joan of Arc, with the purpose of a large experimentation at the level of the language, the metrics and the syntax.

Upon a stylistic analysis of a short passage from the poem in both versions, a very interesting and unique modality of the Monti’s rewriting emerges, which concerns the use of the endecasillabo, the ottava and the vocabulary of the text.
