Les éléments rassemblés dans cet article suggèrent que les réformateurs grégoriens ont adopté un cadre de réflexion essentiellement ecclésiologique et qu’il n’est donc pas possible de s’intéresser à leur «spiritualité» sans passer par celui-ci. On constate en particulier le glissement d’un certain nombre de termes et de thèmes importants de l’époque patristique (reformatio, libertas…) du champ de la piété individuelle à celui du discours ecclésiologique général. Ce cadre d’ensemble permet aussi de comprendre comment les réformateurs ont opté pour une véritable «prise de possession du monde» qui ne concevait pas le spirituel hors d’un ancrage résolu dans le matériel.

The materials presented in this article suggests that the Gregorian refomers adopted an essentially ecclesiological form of reflexion, which means that it is impossible to investigate their spirituality without reference to this ecclesiology. In particular, it is evident that a certain number of important terms and themes of the patristic period (reformatio, libertas…) moved from the terrain of individual piety towards that of general ecclesiological discourse. This framework also enables us to understand how the reformers opted for a real ‘taking possession of the world’ which was incapable of viewing the spiritual outside of a strong anchorage in the material.

Der Beitrag zeigt, dass die Gedankenwelt der Gregorianer hauptsächlich von der Ekklesiologie geprägt war. Dies ist zu berücksichtigen, will man ihre Spiritualität behandeln. Es fällt besonders auf, dass eine Reihe von Begriffen und wichtigen Themen der Patristik (reformatio, libertas) aus dem Bereich der individuellen Frömmigkeit auf den der Ekklesiologie übertragen wurden. Dies erlaubt es auch zu verstehen, wie die Reformer sich für eine «Besitznahme der Welt» entscheiden konnten, die das Spirituelle nur in einer klaren Verankerung im Materiellen verstand.
