Abstract

Nous avons récemment proposé une nouvelle édition et une traduction en français de la et de la . Considérées par certains auteurs comme des précurseurs des apocalypses bibliques, ces compositions ont donné lieu à diverses hypothèses concernant les prédictions historiques qu'elles contiennent. Le but de cet article est de procéder à une recension critique de ces travaux et d'avancer des hypothèses d'identification des événements historiques à l'appui de la documentation textuelle disponible. La signification et la fonction possible de ces textes seront envisagées dans leur contexte socioculturel de production. Aussi, cette étude vise à contribuer au débat sur l'origine de l'apocalypse en amorçant une réflexion sur les limites de l'approche historiographique et l'importance du contexte de production dans la compréhension de ces compositions, indispensable à toute démarche comparative.

Abstract

We have recently proposed a new edition and a French translation of the and the . Considered by some authors as precursors of biblical apocalypses, these compositions have given rise to various hypotheses concerning the historical predictions they contain. The purpose of this article is to provide a critical review of the literature on this subject and to advance hypotheses on the basis of the available documentation. The meaning and possible function of these texts will be addressed in their sociocultural context of production. Hence, this study aims to contribute to the debate on the origins of the apocalypse by initiating a reflection on the limits of the historiographical approach and the importance of the context of production in the understanding of these compositions, which is paramount to any comparative approach.
