Abstract

Abstract

This incense burner in bronze is extraordinary for its absolutely innovative composition: two ostriches support, with their bodies and open wings, the brazier in which the resins were burned. The inscription gives us the name of the deity to whom the object was dedicated, ʿAthtar dhu-Garab, and indirectly also its origin area, al-Sawdāʾ, ancient Nashshān, in the Yemeni Jawf.
