Abstract

Abstract

In this work, we study the figure of the tribunus uoluptatum, a not much known official who performed his office between the Vth and VIth centuries. We examine his date of creation – shortly before year 414 – and the cities where it is mentioned – Rome and Milan. We analyze also the law of the Theodosian Code concerning this office (XV, 7, 13), as well as the letters of the Variae of Cassiodorus, mainly the formula tribuni uoluptatum (VII, 10). We finish this study with the prosopographical notices of the tribuni uoluptatum known by the moment, and with one annex of the texts of Variae where Cassiodorus cite this official.
