Lieux de mémoire de la Septante : la Torah du Sérapéum

Des témoignages chez Tertullien, Zosime et Chrysostome parlent de la présence, dans le Sérapéum alexandrin, d’un ou plusieurs manuscrits issus de l’entreprise de traduction de la Septante. L’article montre que l’information est à prendre au sérieux, qu’il devait s’agir d’un rouleau hébreu qu’à l’époque impériale on a identifié à celui qu’évoquait la Lettre d’Aristée à cause de son antiquité et de ses lettres d’or, et qu’un passage du traité Soferim semble s’y rapporter.

Tertullian, Zosimus and Chrysostom claim that there existed in the library of the Serapeum in Alexandria one or several manuscripts dating from the time of the translation of the Septuagint. The article shows that the information should be taken seriously; they must be speaking of a Hebrew scroll which in Roman times had been identified with that mentioned in the Letter of Aristeas because of its antiquity and its golden letters; a bran of rabbinical literature can be best explained as referring to it.
