We present a comparative analyze of certain relevant passages with very similar content; we also compare them with other works with analogous content.

At first, they were completed to support the teaching of the Latin language, and after, before being printing-pressed, they were renewed with the explanations of alienexegesis. This renovation makes his explanations show unique characteristics, to the point that sometimes even the reprinting of his explanations to a same work do not allow them to be qualified as reedition. Nevertheless the obvious traditional disposition possessed by the Commentarii Familiares is consistent with that retained by the French poetry at least up to the second half of the sixteenth century.

His religious lyricism takes roots in the Christian latin hymnody (Ambrosius, Prudentius), but doesn’t forget the lyric tradition of Horatius: Ercole Strozzi searches an original way between this two traditions.

Un escolio sobre la fiebre y el vinoAbstractThe Portuguese doctor Amatus Lusitanus (1511-1568) published his seven Curationum medicinalium centuriae between 1551 and 1566. The clinical cases are usuallyfollowed by some scholia in which different subjects related to the case are theoreticallydiscussed. In the curatio 28 of the first Centuria Amatus writes a long scholium to talk about an issue frequently debated from Antiquity: the suitability of providing aqueous wine during fever episodes. The paper, in any case, aims to carry out a deep analysis of Amatus’ literary method and to pay special attention to his way of building the text by citing ancient sources (Corpus Hippocraticum, Aristotle, Galenus, Aetius) and using contemporary authors (Manardus, Musa Brassavola, Mondella) in a tacit and more or less dissimulated way.

Telgius show Less to hide fulltext, buy and share links for: Fuentes y ejemplos de los Progymnasmata Rhetorica Summam Totius Artis de J. TelgiusAbstractIn 1561, Jan Telgius wrote in Colonia an introductory handbook to learnrhetoric titled Progymnasmata Rhetorica. The main source - though not the only one - for this text is Rhetorica ad Herennium, of which Telgius’ book is actually an epitome. In addition, as Telgius himself acknowledges, almost all the precepts in his progymnasmata are illustrated by fere Ciceronianis examples. The objective of this paper is: (a) to present an analysis of the sources used in the theoretical part and examples the book comprises; and (b) to present a typology of these ones.

Once an introduction to his life and production is made, attention is paid to the origins of his work Compendium privilegiorum that remained a manuscript because of the reasons expounded in the paper itself. Then the two manuscripts of the work are established and studied for the first time. Different references to a manuscript lacked elucidation on how many manuscripts existed; the only available manuscript had not been studied; and the finding of a second one, which was given to me for study, made me see that an individual study of them, as well as the subsequent collation of both texts was needed.

This paper provides an overview of the Jesuit (Mambrun, Masen, Le Moyne, Le Brun) literary doctrine on the epic between 1650 and 1670. Mambrun discussed the definitions proposed in the main commentaries published before the impact of Boileau-Despréaux’s translation of De sublimitate in 1674. After having explored the range of different definitions of the epic genre and imitation, Mambrun’s contribution to a methodical analysis of Virgil’s achievements is highlighted.

The purpose of this article is to make a first study of his Palaestra Progymnastica, a brief manual intended for the teaching of the progymnasmata to students starting to study Rhetoric at the Gymnasium of Eisenberg. The Palaestra is not a mere summary of the Aphthonii Progymnasmata. On a formal level, the Palaestra is characterized by its schematic structure. The manual is essentially practical and includes instructions on style, formulas and advice. With regard to his examples, the themes are varied, although religious ones pre-dominated, which links him to the reformist pedagogical movement.

The Christian context allows us to raise the possibility that this image is a primitive representation of the Christianization of the myth of Theseus.

Uma experiência pedagógica e artística show Less to hide fulltext, buy and share links for: Aristófanes na Universidade de Lisboa. Uma experiência pedagógica e artísticaBy: Silvina PereiraAbstractIf we take as a starting point the idea that a dramatic text is one meant to be performed, inseparable from the staging practices that each period reinvents, and that the best way to study it is through the experience of attending a performance, there is no better option for university students than providing them the possibility to enter that world. The course Encenação do Teatro Clássico (The Staging of Classical Drama), taught to the students of the Faculty of Letters of the University of Lisbon in 2012, culminated with the public performance of Aristophanes’ play Peace, at the Salão Nobre of the University of Lisbon on December 17, 2012. This article is a reflection upon this challenging, though fruitful, pedagogical and artistic experience.
