Abstract

Abstract

The Sicarî were the most violent revolutionary group in Palestine in the decades before Jerusalem’s destruction in  70. They strongly opposed the Roman occupation of Judea and constituted a dynasty of λῃσταί obsessed with aspiration to the throne. If Hezekiah’s revolt (47-46 ) still had unclear contours, Judas the Galilean (4 - 6), ideologically opposing any form of foreign domination, certainly aimed to become king.
