Abstract

Abstract

New collations establish that the manuscript 189 containing Galen's commentary on Hippocrates' treatise On served as a partial model for the copying of manuscript 465 by Andronic Kallistos in the second half of the fifteenth century. More than a century later, the two manuscripts were used by Rasarius (1517-1578) for his Latin edition of the Galen's (Venise, 1562). After having belonged to Rasarius, these two manuscripts came into the possession of Maxime Margounios (1549-1602). They were then bequeathed to the monastery of Iviron on Mount Athos. While the first remained there, the second was brought to Moscow by the monk Arsene Soukhanov in 1655. The common trajectory of the two manuscripts provides an occasion to focus on the biographies of three Renaissance scholars : Kallistos, Rasarius and Margounios. Their biographies allow us to trace how several manuscripts passed from library to library.
