Cet article porte sur les questions textuelles liées à la transmission manuscrite du traité mystique dit Dialogo, ou Livre de la Divine Doctrine de Catherine de Sienne, qui le dicta à ses scribes dans sa langue vernaculaire siennoise. L’histoire de la critique textuelle du Livre, comme cela arrive souvent avec les textes de spiritualité mystique, laisse quelques questions non résolues, principalement celles qui sont liées à l’utilisation qui a été faite par la suite de la copie de scribe. À travers l’analyse des stemmata proposés par Bacchisio Motzo (1930), Giulio Bertoni (1938) et Giuliana Cavallini (1995) et de leurs justifications, et par confrontation avec la transmission parallèle de la traduction latine du Livre, cet article pose les bases d’un réexamen de l’ensemble de la tradition de cette œuvre.

This paper focuses on the textual issues relating the manuscript transmission of the Dialogo, the Book of the Divine Doctrine by Catherine of Siena, who dictated it to her scribes in her Sienese vernacular. The history of textual criticism of the Book, as often happens with the texts of mystical spirituality, leaves some questions unresolved, mainly related to the use that has been made so far of the scribal copy. Through the analysis of the explanations of the stemmata proposed by Bacchisio Motzo (1930), Giulio Bertoni (1938) and Giuliana Cavallini (1995), compared with the parallel manuscript transmission of the Latin version of the Book, the essay lays the foundations for a reconsideration of the entire tradition of this writing.
