Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

The Venetian humanist Vettor Fausto is one of the very rare persons who consulted the 454, known as A, before it was «discovered» by the French scholar Jean-Baptiste-Gaspard d’Ansse de Villoison. The proof lies in the in his personal copy of Homer’s , the IX.35, housed in the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana. This remarkable example of the reading of the poet in the Renaissance is examined in this study from the paleographical and codicological point of view. The analysis demonstrates that Vettor Fausto is the author of all the Greek and Latin notes in IX.35, and comes to the conclusion that A was the source of a teaching on Homer in Venice in the Renaissance and that the materials of Alexandrian criticism which it contains have been the subject of a disclosure.
