Abstract

Abstract

John Zonaras’ is an important historiographical work from the early twelfth century: the part treating Roman history covers nearly 2000 years, from the arrival of Aeneas in Italy to the reign of the Komnenos dynasty. Often used as a witness for the editions of Plutarch or Cassius Dio, which it abridges, the is beginning to be considered as a work in itself, but there is no complete modern edition. Based on previous scholarly work and on the collation of 25 manuscripts (12th-16th century), this article focuses on books VII-IX of the in order to propose a classification and to establish a complete in preparation for a more precise edition.
