The Collectio Canonum Mutinensis and the Liber Pontificalis

La présente étude propose une comparaison entre la Collectio Canonum Mutinensis, collection canonique produite au vi^e ou au vii^e siècle, et les traditions textuelles du Liber Pontificalis romain, une collection de biographies pontificales dont les premières versions furent rédigées au cours du vi^e siècle. Les principales conclusions sont qu’il faut réviser l’ordre dans lequel les premières rédactions du Liber Pontificalis romain ont été produites et que la Collectio Canonum Mutinensis est un témoin de la première version de cette source.

This article proposes a comparison between the Collectio Canonum Mutinensis, a canonical collection produced in the sixth or seventh century, and some versions of the Roman Liber Pontificalis, a collection of papal biographies whose earliest redactions were written during the first half of the sixth century. The main conclusions are that we must revise the order in which the early redactions of the Roman Liber Pontificalis were produced, and that the Collectio Canonum Mutinensis is witness to the earliest version of this source.
